Large Orange Sulphur
Phoebis agarithe

Observation date: August 08, 2020
Submitted by: Janeal W. Thompson
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: There were two of these large orange sulphurs visiting the zinnias in my yard. They have been here for about one week and today, we netted and photographed one of the two. The butterflies are very active and difficult to approach for a photograph in the yard. This one was released after it was photographed. Mike Fisher suggested the identification. The temperatures have been hot at around 100-102 degrees for the past few days. One day this week there were winds of 35 mph from the southwest, but the butterflies were already here on that day.

Coordinator notes: Finally got to this sighting Janeal....you don't have to specifically list your address - county and "Lamar" is sufficient for the BAMONA submissions. I've never seen one of this species in Colorado. Mike
