Coordinator notes: There are no records for Pyrgus communis(Common Checkered Skipper) in that area. White checkered skippers look identical, but the male genitalia differ. To verify Pyrgus communis in Los Angeles County would require genitalic examination or DNA work from a specialist. Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Kern, Inyo and Tulare Counties have both species. Field marks don't work for those 2 species-Ken Davenport
