Observation notes: This large male stayed in our yard for 48 hours. My guess is he hatched in our alder tree grove two acres over. He only moved when I had to pick him up off the gravel. He shook himself into shape to fly high into a Douglas fir. It was quite the sunny day and he had been enjoying shade on our porch in the evening, much to the alarm of the resident wren.
