Observation date: April 24, 2021
Submitted by: Luna-Linuche.76
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This female hairstreak was the ONLY butterfly we observed amid the profusion of wildflowers during our 2-hour RT hike in the Tom McCall Nature Preserve (between the towns of Mosier & The Dalles, Oregon. We saw it flying in an open, hilltop meadow dominated by flowering balsamroot & patches of Indian Paintbrush near the summit of the Tom McCall Point Trail in Rowena, Oregon. Weather conditions were mixed: warm sunshine alternating with cooler temps. & clouds, with brief intermittent light rain showers; & very windy. The lone butterfly was fluttering over the flowers, and landed to rest on the dead stem of a Balsamroot when we photographed it.
