Common Bagworm Moth
Psyche casta

Observation date: May 20, 2021
Submitted by: tirvine2020
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Reared from Trifolium repens. Bagworm was found on 4/20 crawling on the side of our house. It was fed Trifolium repens, it ate small chunks at a time, sometimes at the leaf margin sometimes in the center of the leaf. Occasionally stopped eating for some time and would crawl onto the ceiling of the container. On 4/30, the larva attached itself to the side of the container and through the clear plastic of the container it was seen that the entrance was sewn shut. The adult eclosed this morning, 5/20. The pupal exuvia was pushed out the posterior of the bag about halfway. FW length was 5.1mm
