Aphrodite Fritillary
Speyeria aphrodite

Observation date: July 09, 2021
Submitted by: DeepSkyKelly
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This was a very large butterfly (makes me lean toward Atlantis), and the colors of the Aphrodite underwing look too pale. To me, this looks most like the Eastern Aphrodite, but that makes no sense range-wise. I'm having a hard time with this ID, esp. because I wasn't able to get a good shot of the upper wings.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: Kelly, the frits vex me to no end. in this case, check the eyes first. its tan/brown eyes make it Aphrodite. wing markings be danged. your only other resident silverspsot has light blue/grey eyes - that's the ratonensis race of Northwestern.
