Observation notes: This flier was guarding a section of partially shaded trail in a more eastern park/preserve of this coastal city. It's an area where I occasionally see Lorquin's Admirals so I did not examine the image until a day later when I realized what I was seeing. This butterfly actually flew higher off the ground than Admirals normally do, and alit in this Live Oak tree about 12 feet off the ground.
