Observation notes: Reared from Cephalanthus occidentalis. Many vacated primary linear mines were found on adjacent leaves. These mostly started at or near the midrib and were quite short and very thin. A few secondary blotch mines were found, including this still active one. Notice how the blotch starts as a linear portion that enters the midrib briefly. Of the few blotch mines I looked at, each one began with a short linear portion in the midrib. The larva emerged from its mine and burrowed into some dirt in the container on 7/22. The adult emerged some time between 8/1 and 8/7, and it was still alive on 8/7.
