Elegant sphinx
Sphinx perelegans

Observation date: September 12, 2021
Submitted by: WesternLarch
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I have seen the same species once before, at the Crescent Mine in Gilbert, WA. That specimen was beige/pink, and it was late September or October 2019 when it was found. One aspect I have noted is the brown head- I am unsure if it is species-specific or not, but no other caterpillars that I saw the image for seemed to have them. Blue tail/horn, orange spiracles, light brown head with tan lines framing it, purple and white diagonal stripes. Was NOT found anywhere near tobacco or tomatoes- does not look like a tobacco hornworm.
