Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Observed as part of an official Lepidoptera survey permitted by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. There is currently no public access to this part of the State Park. Only ~4 arctics were seen on May 23rd. There was a biblical thunderstorm that dumped ~5" of rain and copious hail across the area on the night of the 22nd/23rd. Weather was cool and windy, maybe just barely reaching 60F. Of the ~4 seen, one was beat to hell, but the one pictured was in fairly good shape. Many more were seen in the same area on May 24th, with a mix of beat up and fresh individuals. Tough little butterflies!

Coordinator notes: Glad you finally found capulinensis at this site...I did in 1994 (May 22)...up the old tram line and to the north/east...it was very common and the day sunny but brisk, the temp about the same...60-65F. Mike
