Observation notes: Reared from Prunus serotina. Larva was found in a newly cut out leaf case next to a small hole in a twig next to a leaf petiole along with an empty case on 5/11. This was likely where the larva overwintered and there was only one mine found on one of the leaves, so this larva was likely found around when it emerged from the twig (C. pruniella is known to overwinter by boring into midribs of leaves or twigs and leaving behind fall case). Stopped eating on 5/18 and was attached to a leaf in the container where it seemed to take a 4 day hiatus. Resumed feeding and moving around on 5/22. Fed by reaching out from bag to mine the leaves, but seldom fully exited bag to mine the leaves. The larva also cut out part of the leaf to make another extension to its bag, each addition greatly increasing the size of the case. Pupated by attaching its case to the lid of the container on 6/2. Eclosed 6/21.
