Desert Marble
Euchloe lotta

Observation date: March 17, 2022
Submitted by: jamesvonloh
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: A few marbles were perching and sunning on creosotebush shrubs while defending territory from each other and from Pima desert orangetips. This site is on the crown of Observation Hill within the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park, east-facing slope of the Dona Ana Mountains, along Jornada Road. The afternoon was under full sun, cool, and with wind gusts whipping the hilltop.

Coordinator notes: very nice, Jim! yes, those desert hilltops are busy places in the spring, as males of several species stake out and defend territories to impress females.
