Coordinator notes: You have never seen one in your area, but you did not give a locality within Los Angeles County. What area specifically was this seen? The actual Papilio cresphontes is larger in size and occurs from the middle of Texas eastward. The Western Giant Swallowtail has been extending its range as far north as Santa Barbara County. I have seen our Western Giant Swallowtail commonly in San Clemente in Orange County. Let me know what city this was in, I am curious to know their status in northern LA County, I was in the Castaic area 2 days ago and I wonder if they get into that area. I was born in Glendale!
