Observation notes: I was at the elementary monarch garden to plant 29 milkweed plants and several different nectar flowers. When I planted the first three balloon milkweed, a female monarch appeared within a minute or so. She laid eggs on all 29 milkweed over a three hour period. What I thought was so interesting is that she checked every plant in the strip of sunlight. As the sunlight went across more of the garden, she kept the same flight pattern and just added in more plants. The milkweed plants were balloon, common, swamp, tropical, whorled, and horsetail. Balloon was the favorite.
