Sleepy Orange
Abaeis nicippe

Observation date: June 05, 2022
Submitted by: jamesvonloh
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Sleepy orange takes nutrients from foam block residue; the blocks formed as storage reservoir water was released to the Rio Grande, filling the channel bank full. and floating the foam downstream. Release of stored water churned the dry channel to produce blocks of foam consisting of trapped air in bubbles, fine sediment, and dissolved salts and minerals among other constituents. Image #5 shows foam block reduced to flattened state by wind and dissolution. Image #6 shows foam blocks moving downriver with the flow. The morning was warm, under bright sky carrying particulates from wildfire, and with light wind.
