Common Streaky-Skipper
Celotes nessus

Observation date: July 03, 2022
Submitted by: jamesvonloh
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Small skipper joining marine and Reakirt's blues at a small depression in bedrock, with shallow standing water and moist soil. The skipper isolated and spent time on a damp twig (where it took nutriens from moist surfaces and also appeared to deposit eggs), then it traveled across the depression and appeared to be depositing eggs on a small rock within the depression. A robber fly attempted to capture it but was unsuccessful, resulting in the skipper flying away. The late morning was warm and breezy at the head of the Achenbach Canyon hiking trail into the Organ Mountains.

Coordinator notes: another set of splendid images, Jim, for a tiny skipper. this individual is replenishing electrolytes and exuding liquid from which the electrolytes were extracted. with your permission, I'll use one or two of these to spiff up the species account in BofNM.
