Observation notes: This butterfly would land on white clover flowers to get nectar close to the ground, I could never get close enough to take a picture. It would fly away if I approached to closely. Finally it landed on a taller plant (Symphotrichum oblongifolium) and at the same time the sun was temporarily shaded by a cloud. This allowed me to approach it and finally get a good closeup picture.
I love seeing the heart inside the orange marking closest to the wing tail.
