Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Several queens were present along the Rio Grande nectaring from milkweed (whorled and climbing) flowers, perching/displaying on tall coyote willow shrubs, exhibiting courtship behavior, and mating. This data entry documents a sequence of a mating pair (hanging from a twig within the coyote willow canopy approximately 1.5m from the ground surface). The male would occasionally open its wings to the dorsal view which resulted in nearby males visiting and interacting with the mating pair. The midday was hot, humid, breezy, and sunny; the site was under shade of overstory coyote willow tall shrubs.
