Observation notes: A dull-colored and tattered female monarch oviposited on the underside of emerging whorled milkweed flower buds; the milkweed plants having become established along the Rio Grande bank. This individual also spent some time on a Baccharis shrub flower cluster, elevated above the milkweed plants. The morning was warm, sunny, and with steady but light wind.
