Observation notes: The first fritillary arriving, per this summer's observations along the Rio Grande, takes nectar from tamarisk flowers. Tamarisk trees along the Rio banks, have become established over the past 80 years, have produced flowers continually since April, and many butterfly species and individuals use them for a nectar source and as habitat during migration.
