Aphrodite Fritillary
Speyeria aphrodite

Observation date: September 05, 2022
Submitted by: Cascade Colors
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Aphrodite, Regal, or Atlantis seem most likely to me based on the pattern/coloration of these underwings. I realize Regal is highly unlikely though since per the notes it is a rarer species. However, I do note what seems like a distinctive white line on the curve of the lower wing, which I noticed in some Regal photos.

Coordinator notes: One of your suggested IDs is correct...Aphrodite...I think you can see that the eye on this one definitely shows brown/amber...also the spots on the disc of the underside of the hindwing are slightly elongated. These tend to be rounder on the other species (of course, Regal is very rare in the eastern Front Range but gets recorded as a fly-in stray from time to time). Mike
