Observation notes: As best I could count, 3 or 4 individuals. Perched on sunny, muddy beach sipping. Slowly opening and closing wings. Flying and circling back to same spot when I got too close. Seemed to prefer open areas free of vegetation on the beach today. Habitat: Mountain Lake, marshy wet meadow at north end and east side of lake. Wide, muddy beach along west side and south end of lake. Forest edge. Mixed conifer forest including pine, Aspen. Shrubby willows, huckleberry and Douglas Spirea. Grassy meadow with asters, gentian and lady’s tresses blooming. So many froglets and toadlets I had to watch where I stepped. Lots of Yellow Jackets.
