Observation date: September 07, 2022
Submitted by: sandyleapt
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Perched on mud shore sipping. Small compared to other orange and black butterflies I saw. Able to snap two photos and it was gone, did not come back. Seemed to prefer shore area with a little vegetation. Found along NW corner of lake. Habitat: Mountain Lake, marshy wet meadow at north end and east side of lake. Wide, muddy beach along west side to south end of lake. Forest edge. Mixed conifer forest including pine, Aspen. Shrubby willows, huckleberry and Douglas Spirea. Grassy meadow with asters, gentian and lady’s tresses blooming. So many froglets and toadlets I had to watch where I stepped. Lots of Yellow Jackets.
