Lesser Grass Blue
Zizina otis

Observation date: March 31, 2021
Submitted by: Seth Mueller
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I know this is a very very bad specimen, and may not look identifiable but I'm very certain what its species it is. This was spotted on the trail on the way to the Maui blowhole. When I caught it, it had the typical iridescent blue that you generally see on polyommatinae, and some of that is evident near the thorax on the left forewing. This specimen used to be very nice, but was abruptly destroyed by the security later at the airport, who had to wipe it's envelope down, which was completely unnecessary and didn't even matter because they let it onto the flight anyway. But apart from that, because of its location and appearance, I'm fairly certain this is the lesser grass blue.

Coordinator notes: Difficult ID with extreme wear, however would still be the best fit given size and wing shape. -jmgesell
