Observation date: August 29, 2021
Submitted by: tirvine2020
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Reared from Quercus robur. Q. bicolor was common nearby and had numerous mines that were likely the same species as this, this host is almost certainly Q. robur and not bicolor or even alba (no alba trees have been found on campus). Larva was green and formed upper surface trumpet mines. Beginning of the mines are distinct from the rest of the mine and can be seen where the epidermis seems to be whiter and more “taut” (not sure how to describe it, visible at lower left part of mine in final photo). Larva was found on 8/29 and spun pupal chamber on 9/6 in the mine. Cocoon was put in fridge in late October, 2021, and taken out on 3/5/22. Adult eclosed between 3/11 and 3/19, probably closer to the latter date since it was still alive when photographed on 3/20. Photos in reverse chronological order.
