Checkered White
Pontia protodice

Observation date: February 04, 2023
Date notes: Time approximate
Submitted by: Chrustay
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Not exhibiting the very fast flight that I've seen with other sisymbrii. Cell end bar on the DFW seems larger than expected and without a large indentation along the distal edge. Less of the thin blackening on the dorsal surface veins than on others I have seen and photographed. But with the limited field guides that I have these may be characteristics of some adults in some southwestern populations? The slight break on the VHW thick grayish borders to the central wing veins certainly looks correct for P. sisymbrii and *not* correct for any other Pontia. But maybe a hybrid? Does that happen? Nectaring at what I believe is Descurainia pinnata.
