Observation notes: A large skipper landed on the ground near me and I quickly took a photo before it flew off. This was on a limestone hillside with plateau live oak (Q. fusiformis), Texas persimmon (Diospyros texana) and sotol (Dasylirion texanum). Yucca constricta and Yucca rupicola are found nearby. It was a cloudy day, 67 °F., with wind 5-10 mph. I sent the photo to Martin Reid who confirmed the id, and wrote "A terrific record, and very early." This is a lifer for me, I was not expecting to see this! I plan to go back to check the area again.
