Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
Papilio glaucus

Observation date: April 05, 2023
Submitted by: Phoenix8185
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I found this little guy half-frozen by the door of a Subaru dealership in Bloomington MN. The temperature was 27 with a stiff wind that made the wind chill temperatures in the single digits. His wings were in pretty rough shape.

Coordinator notes: Unfortunately, it looks like her chrysalis must've been in a warmer area than the native habitat and she accidentally eclosed too early. You can differentiate P. glaucus (Eastern Tiger) from P. canadensis (Canadian Tiger) by location, amount of blue on HW, as well as the thickness of the dark band along the inner HW margin. The amount of blue on the HW classic for a female. -jmgesell
