Dreamy Duskywing
Erynnis icelus

Observation date: May 07, 2023
Submitted by: DeepSkyKelly
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Had a hard time with this one. I'm leaning toward Dreamy because of the slightly darker edges on upper-wing stripes, and the fact that those stripes extend completely from one wing edge to the other. The pale spots on the lower wings also extend higher than it appears they do on the Sleepy. There is a slight dip toward the tip of the upper wing that may correspond to the note in Kaufman about rounded wings.

Coordinator notes: Kelly, you're talking about marks I am not familiar with. Don't put too much stock in a single field guide image because there can be a fair amount of variation within each species. For dreamy, I look for long palps, a gray ring around each abdominal segment, and a strong silver wash on the dorsal forewing. and aspens nearby.
