Observation notes: Multiple individuals sighted along a half-mile stretch of a trail in the Elfin Forest Preserve. Largely open chaparral. The weather is unusually cool, with the sun beginning to peek through high fog. The individuals were observed flying up and down short segments of the trail, along with other lepidoptera species (Rural Skippers, Metalmarks, etc.) , or perching on overhanging branches. This individual was photographed still with wings folded, and a blurry image of the butterfly's inner wing color as it took flight was also captured.
