Hackberry Emperor
Asterocampa celtis

Observation date: June 06, 2023
Submitted by: LightScavenger
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I'm not 100% sure about my ID. I thought it might be dead when I saw it but when I made a movement, it flew off. It was a cool, overcast morning -- I think the butterfly was just trying to warm up. I saw it right at the mouth of Embudito Canyon on the west side of the Sandia mountains.

Coordinator notes: you were close, but the basal part of the forewing cell area has two solid dark bars in Leilia, rather than one that is broken into two parts in Hackberry Emperor. thanks for submitting!
