Observation notes: This lone butterfly was seen fluttering around & landing on flowers of this shrub. Upon landing, it constantly fanned its wings. Weather was warm & sunny, with light breeze, temp. about 70 degrees F.

Coordinator notes: It seems rather early in season for these and some Chlosyne palla can resemble this, but Warren in his Oregon book mentioned hoffmannni can fly in mid-June in Oregon.-Ken Davenport
