Observation notes: Buildings and gardens around the National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters created by the CCC in the 1930s. This is the only place for miles around with trees and shrubs, an oasis. Area around the garden includes high desert upland sagebrush, salt desert scrub. The refuge headquarters abuts a pond, marshes. This was a wet year. Butterflies were found in the gardens around the visitor center. Nectaring on a chestnut tree of some sort and on French Lilac and spirea flowering in the garden. Elevation approximately 4100 feet.
