Observation notes: Nectaring on New Jersey Tea (Ceanothus americanus) in my small suburban lot. Yard has many possible host plants including Butternut (Juglans cinerea), Prunus serotina (Black Cherry), and several species of Quercus, as well as, nectar plants including meadowsweet, milkweeds, Viburnums, Tilia, with sweet white cover taking over the remaining grass. Yard is packed full of native plants, shrubs, and young trees, but no hickories. With the exception of one Black Walnut next door, the surrounding properties are mainly manicured lawns with few plantings (and these are mostly non-native).
