Juniper Hairstreak
Callophrys gryneus

Observation date: July 05, 2023
Submitted by: topper72
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Partly cloudy, breezy at times, hot- temp in mid 90s F. quite a few seen nectaring on horsetail milkweed. This very fresh, colorful individual had a very faint purplish tinge on leading edge of the VFW and VHW. I was lucky on the blurry dorsal shot.

Coordinator notes: wow, those are two terrific images! gryneus does have a purple component that is better expressed in some far western populations; we don't see it here except as you saw, in individuals just eclosed. and I've been looking/waiting for a decent dorsal view. may I lease borrow both for BofNM?
