Northwestern Fritillary
Speyeria hesperis

Observation date: July 04, 2023
Submitted by: Joshua C
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Aka Southwestern fritillary, based on range Argynnis nausicaa electa. We originally thought this was a Morman fritillary in the field based on the small size (about the same size as a Common Wood Nymph), but I saw you ID'ed Christopher's photos of this on iNat as Northwestern. After looking more into it that does seem like the best match based mainly on the largely dark red HW disk with only a few lighter areas.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: yes, BofNM calls this Argynnis nausicaa electa. size can vary, but Mormon will have a paler, almost green ventral disc. great photos!
