Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Mostly cloudy, mid-60's, windy. The sky was getting darker and the air was cooling as an early afternoon storm approached. Because of the darkening sky, I was surprised to see this beauty resting on a Puffball mushroom. The butterfly wasn't disturb by my presence.

Coordinator notes: Correct guess on Edith's Checkerspot...newly emerged male (probably eclosed very nearby and crawled up on the mushroom and not quite ready to fly). If the storm hit, it might have picked the "wrong time" to breakout into the world! Anicia checkerspot usually a little later flying and usually larger in size. Both use Penstemon (Beardtongue) for hosts (editha sometimes yellow Paintbrush if there is any around? Mike
