Observation notes: Dorsal forewings highly cryptic, with lighter coloration at apical tip corners. Scalloped cryptic banding bordered with inconspicuous dots on trailing edge of dorsal forewings. Ventral folded fore- and hindwings with broad black, orange/red, and cream bands; trailing edge of both ventral fore-and hindwings with bright rectangular/honeycomb spots fading proximally to broad black/dark band. Large moth, approx. 2 inches wings folded. Adjacent to intermittent creek and mixed deciduous forest and woodland meadow; old-growth bur oak, hickory, ash, walnut, elm; honey locust and others less dominant; below prairie uplands.
