Observation notes: On Clearwater Trail near Crest Trail between Turkey and Argentina Canyons in the Sacramentos. At the edge of an alpine grassland next to a clump of oaks. Ovipositing on Oriogonum umbellatum, not one of the buckwheats listed as a host plant in BofNM, but with a list that long, they don't seem to be very picky. It was the only buckwheat growing in the area.

Coordinator notes: the true identity of this metalmark is still being ascertained, but we put it with Mexican Metalmark for now. I suspect the yellow-flowered Eriogonum on which it was ovipositing was E. jamesii v. wootoni. That also happens to be the host for Sheridan's Hairstreak right in that location in early spring (April - May). you should go there and look for it next year, as it has not been reported of late. No one goes looking for it, but it is beautiful green.)
