Observation notes: At first glance Acmon comes to mind, however, there is no iridescence on the hind wing eyespots. Other differences that point to a buckwheat (square spotted?): fringes are checked, and on the upper wings, only barely visible in the second image, there are dark margins with a flush of orange coming in on the hindwing. Dorsal forewing spots also point away from acmon. As to what variety of buckwheat, I'm a bit stumped. Those that most closely resemble are a bit out of range (Rita? Ancilla?).
