Coordinator notes: This is the Anicia Checkerspot (subspecies looks to be capella...darker higher mountain form but not brucei which is above timberline). Editha can be confused to anicia. Editha has continuous red bands toward the outer part of the upper hindwings composed with spots fairly uniform in size. The only place for editha east of the Continental Divide in Colorado is in Larimer and Jackson County (subspecies alebarki). West of the Divide it is more widely found (though local) from late May and June in the sagebrush habitat (mostly subspecies gunnisonensis which is very red dominated on the upperside...is nearly gone from a site when anicia begins to fly, it present at the same place).
