One-Spotted Variant
Hypagyrtis unipunctata

Observation date: August 09, 2023
Submitted by: EddieGarrity
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: While gardening, pulling out weeds, this moth flew into the air briefly and then landed on the mulched path near where I was standing. I took some pictures of it. It looks like the same moth I saw here last year at this time of year on 8 August, 2022 and submitted to BAMONA. If it is the same moth species, a One-Spotted Variant (Hypagyrtis unipunctata), the larvae feed on the leaves of a wide range of deciduous trees and shrubs, including Amelanchier, Rosa, Prunus, Salix, Populus, Alnus, Betula, Corylus, Fraxinus, Tilia, Ulmus, Quercus and Acer. There are several Amelanchier, Rosa, Prunus, Fraxinus, Ulmus, Quercus and Acer plants nearby.
