Observation notes: This caterpillar was on the macadam road just before the Powerline Trailhead in South Lake Tahoe. It was inching away, but held still long enough for a quick photo snap

Coordinator notes: This is really puzzling. I thought it looked a lot like Sphinx kalmiae, but the range is completely wrong. I think it's Sphinx perelegans, but while the range is good, the color of the lateral stripes seems wrong, although there aren't many examples available. Anyone have a better idea? JRains
