Date notes: Sunny

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Watched this copper feeding on sweet clover in a quiet area of a ditch leading into an Audubon Society study site. I was photographing a Milbert's when I discovered this copper.
Then along came another copper . I haven't seen an American Copper for almost 5 years. so I was thrilled to find them.

Coordinator notes: It's actually not an Amercian Copper. I favor a Purplish over a Bronze due to the prominent orange zig-zag pattern on the submarginal HWs, as well as the more prominent black spotting on the FWs of this male (Bronze tends to have less FW spots, and if you see post-median FW spots, it likely is showing through from the ventral side). Addendum: subsequent ventral views provided of this individual (see second sighting - 1369705) confirmed a Purplish Copper. -jmgesell
