Observation notes: Sunny, warm day, about 70 degrees F. I was gardening in my yard when I noticed this caterpillar moving away from an area where I had been working - lilac and lavender. It was moving across the dirt - as pictured. The caterpillar was roughly the length of my finger. Huge! My yard (adjacent to the lilac and lavendar) is currently planted 1/3 vegetable garden, 1/3 berries and fruit trees - plum, apple, crabapple, 1/3 pollinator perrenials and annuals.
