Observation notes: One of two observed butterflies on this hike in Mission Gorge area. Plenty of other flying insect activity (wasps, bees, flies) but almost no butterfly activity. Weather was warm, clear, and slightly breezy. The Buckeye was seen on a ridgeline trail among sage, wild sunflower, buckwheat, and sumac. The individual was quite active, and did not hang out for a detailed photo session.

Coordinator notes: Our western Buckeyes are the Gray Buckeye, in the eastern USA they have the Common Buckeye, I am not sure if they overlap ranges-Ken Davenport
