Observation date: July 10, 2023

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Small patch of wildflowers under Alaska Railroad trestle bridge, surrounded by boreal forest. Sunny, 60oF, wind 5-10 mph. Very worn individual first photographed on the ground, then caught in net. The pattern of yellow spots, lack of checkered costa and median band, and slight grizzled areas on DHW seem to be diagnostic. All three photos of same individual.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: Location of lower spot on outer forewing and lack of spots visible, even in its worn condition, indicate Erebia occulta. No other Erebia for Alaska comes close to ident toward this specimen. Thanks, JAMES STEEN
