Observation notes: Several of these tortoiseshells landed (with proboscis extended) on a well-worn, moist, dirt/gravel path near an aspen grove, with wings open to the warm sunshine, but abruptly closed if someone walked near. It was a warm, sunny afternoon, with temperatures in the low 70's degree F. (Photo by Ron Larson)
