Observation notes: Hi, I am in Glencoe, IL (north of Chicago). Late last summer I was surprised to actually see a female lay eggs on my spicebush. The caterpillars were what I'd hoped for (baby dragons!). They overwintered in my outdoor habitat and are now eclosing. However, they do not look like classic spicebush swallowtails, from what I am seeing. The spots are yellow and not ivory. Of a different shape. The one male that I've had is more blue than green. Can you please verify?

Coordinator notes: Very cool! The colors and pattern shapes on your individuals are within the known variations of the species. You say your location is north of Chicago, but you pinned a location on Long Island, NY? Not a huge deal since they are known to be found in both locations...
