Great Basin Wood-Nymph
Cercyonis sthenele

Observation date: June 07, 2024

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Near Chorro Grande Trail around 4000 ft elevation. Sunny day in the 80’s F. These Satyrs use grass as a host plant, but I have not had luck finding out which ones. It was mostly invasive Cheat Grass and Medusa Head Grass around this area. The Satyr's spend a lot of time flying under bushes like Willow, Sagebrush, and Yerba Santa and they are clearly attracted to some species of grass but they rarely land or nectar at flowers so hard to determine.
